Autumn is Awesome in Addo

During the autumn months of March, April and May, after our hot Addo summer, comes our cooling-off season of autumn. Night time arrives earlier, the sun arrives a little later in the morning, temperatures begin to drop slightly and most vegetative growth decreases. In Addo, autumn is the start of our citrus season. It is also, in our opinion, one of the most perfect times to visit the Addo Elephant National Park. Read on to find out why we think autumn is awesome in Addo!

Top Four Reasons Why Autumn is Awesome in Addo

The weather is just glorious. At the beginning of March, sunrise is normally around 06h00 and the sun sets from 18h50. May sees the sun rise at around 07h00 and set at around 17h30. According to the weather website Accuweather, our average temperature during this season is around 22ºC. From experience we can say the real feel of our autumn temperatures, are between 25ºC and 30ºC. Even though we do have the occasional cold front, the awesome Addo autumn weather is mostly sunny and warm with light wind, low humidity and clear skies.

From mid April, we enter our low season, meaning that the Addo Elephant Park becomes quieter and guided tours feel more exclusive. Statistics show that the least number international visitors travel to the Addo area during the autumn and winter months. We offer awesome Addo autumn and winter rates and packages which provide excellent value for money, especially for longer stays. If you are a traveller who prefers less of a crowd but would still like to enjoy some South African sunshine, then autumn is certainly a perfect time to visit Addo.

The chances of spotting animals in the Addo Elephant National Park could certainly be in your favour. While we acknowledge that spotting wildlife is all about being at the right place at the right time, the wildlife tends to be more visible and more energized. The animals also enjoy the warm sun and light wind and need less shelter.

Addo is awesome in autumn as our citrus ripens in May. This means that you will see citrus trees laden with ripe fruit, enjoy delicious freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast and a variety of fresh and juicy fruit in all our meals. You are welcome to pick and enjoy the oranges from the trees in our garden too.
