Family Safari Holiday Checklist
If you are planning a family safari holiday to the malaria-free Eastern Cape here are some suggested items for your checklist.
Entry regulations
All children (18 and under) travelling in and out of South Africa with both biological parents must travel with:
- Valid passport of travelling parents and child
- Visa, if required
- Unabridged birth certificate listing both parents (note: these must be the original documents, or certified copies of the originals).
Any child 18 and under travelling with just one of the parents listed on his or her birth certificate must also present:
- Parental consent affidavit not older than four months from the non-travelling parent, or
- Letter of special circumstances issued by Director-General of Home Affairs (or similar) in the event that a parent or parents are incapacitated or deceased and no legal guardian has been appointed as yet.

Medicine & Malaria
It is always useful to travel with medication that may be needed by your children. Suggestions include your preferred treatment of headaches, stomach cramps, grazes, colds, coughs and bites. There is an excellent network of family doctors and pharmacies throughout the country should you need their assistance.
Chrislin African Lodge is located in the malaria-free Eastern Cape and thus no anti-malaria medication is required.
Entertainment
Chrislin African Lodge offers a great space for children to enjoy the outdoors. We are surrounded by a large number of family-friendly activities. Most children love being on the open safari vehicle during game drives too. However, some children may need a few tricks to keep them entertained while on safari. We suggest you carry a few snacks, some books and things for drawing and colouring. Children also enjoy taking photographs and videos so ensure that you have these charged and ready. You can also create fun family games involving spotting wildlife and birds.
Food and drink
We have three children of our own and host many families at Chrislin. Our chef completely understands the needs of children and teenagers and caters for these in our breakfasts and dinners. Children of all ages thoroughly enjoy the food.
Make sure that children have enough to drink throughout the day. We provide drinking water in each room and recommend that you drink bottled water to avoid unsettled tummies.
Family Safari Holiday Fun
Once all of the basics have been checked off, you might also like to take some time to plan the more exciting parts of your trip. Addo is an amazing spot to visit with family as there is so much to see and do. Day trips into Addo Elephant Park, sandboading on the highest dunes in the area, quad biking through our working citrus farm and canoeing down the Sundays River. We are very happy to help you to plan your perfect family safari itinerary. Please get in touch if you need some local knowledge throughout your planning process.
